Daniel Edward Brock, 69, of Lincoln, passed away Monday, January 8, 2024. He was born on October 2, 1954, in Columbus, Nebraska at St. Mary’s Hospital to Robert and Mary (Noonan) Brock. He was the 2nd son and 3rd child of Bob and Mary. Dan chose to christen the brand new hard wood floors in their new house with a glass baby bottle full of milk!
He later attended St. Isidore Elementary school and graduated from Scotus Central Catholic High School in 1972. Dan went on to attend UNL where he played football and later earned a degree in Fisheries and Wildlife. He was recruited by Bob Devaney, played for Tom Osborne, and was coached by Monte Kiffin. After ending his career as a player, Dan later coached for UNL football while finishing his degree.
Dan and Barb met in 1973 and were married on July 30, 1976. They learned that marriage allows us to annoy that very special person for the rest of our lives! Barb always told Dan that he was the man of her dreams. Dan told her she needed to get better dreams. They had two amazing children Jennifer and Chad. They were then blessed with the three of the most beautiful grandchildren in the world: Aidan, Ansley and Bryn.
Dan enjoyed hunting, fishing, gambling and having a few beers… not necessarily in that order. He also thoroughly loved his fur babies: Bert, Lacy, Simba and Sami.
He was employed by NEBCO Industries for over 40 years. Dan was beginning to see that retirement light at the end of the tunnel when leiomyosarcoma took over our lives.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Jennifer (Jeff Curry) Brock, Chad (Danielle Walz) Brock; grandchildren, Ansley, Bryn, 5 siblings and numerous nieces and nephews.
In passing, Dan will join his beloved grandson, Aidan, his parents, Bob and Mary, his father-in-law, Earl, his sister-in-law, Cheryl, dear friends, De and Charlie Jasper, grandparents, aunts and uncles.
The generosity of blood donors sustained Dan for the last 8 weeks while he continued to treat his cancer. Consequently, we encourage others to donate blood, if they are able.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Children's Hospital of Omaha, Aidan's Animals, or Capital Humane Society.
