Donald P Svehla

Donald P. Svehla, 79, of Lincoln, Nebraska passed away at his home on March 2, 2016. Donald was born to John and Frances (Prokop) Svehla on June 18, 1936 in Friend, Nebraska. He was the youngest of four children, with older brothers Raymond, Robert and Bernard. Donald graduated from Friend High School in 1954 where he lettered in football, basketball, and track. After completing Army basic training at Fort Carson, Colorado, Donald married Janice Rae Kellough on July 31, 1958 at the Friend United Methodist Church. He then left for overseas duty in Germany. Donald and Janice were happily married for 56 years and together had four sons.Donald was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He spent countless hours following the activities of his children and grandchildren in school, music and athletic events. He was a long-time member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. He made friends easily and loved to laugh. He lived a joyous, full life. He is survived by his sons, Thomas (Cindy) of Liberty, MO, Ronald (Meg) of Lincoln, NE, James (Teri) of Oak Park, IL, and David (Cheri) of Cumming, GA; brothers Raymond Svehla of York, NE, and Robert Svehla of Bella Vista, AR; grandchildren Matt Nash (Stacy) (29), Alexander Svehla (22), Erin Svehla (22), Toni Svehla (20), Benjamin Svehla (19), Taylor Svehla (18), Talmage Svehla (18), Jackson Svehla (16), Avery Svehla (12), and Brady Svehla (12); and great grandchildren Noah (7), Elena (3), and Lucy Nash (1 week).Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, and his brother, Bernard.
