Glema King

–

Lincoln, Nebraska

Glema Mae Jeary King, 90, died unexpectedly on February 11, 2023. Glema was born in Seward, NE on May 15, 1932 to Walter and Bonalyn Jeary. She grew up in a busy loving farm family working alongside her parents and siblings.

After graduating, she got her teaching certificate and taught in a one room schoolhouse for three years. At some point during that time period she met a handsome young boy named Melvin on the church bus to camp. It was then the love story began.

Glema and Melvin were married on June 8th, 1952. To this marriage three children were born, Gary, Sheryl, and Bruce. Glema again worked hard and loved her family. She worked alongside Mel to build their home on North 27th St. She gardened, canned, sewed, baked, and seemed to always be busy. Every birthday and holiday was special because of her presence and touches of love she expressed through her baking and love. Everyone had a beautiful birthday cake that she made, which was always delicious.

She was a stay-at-home Mom until Bruce started school, then she began working for Lincoln Public Schools and continued for 20+ years. She still managed to balance her job and to make her home a happy, loving place.

Glema joined Mel in retirement in the early 80s. She was beginning to have grandchildren to love and spoil and wanted as much time with them as possible. Grandchildren were treated to unlimited time in her presence. Playing games, making crafts, learning to knit or sew, baking and eating Grandma's delicious goodies were a highlight of all the grandchildren.

Glema enjoyed her friends as well. Glema and Mel loved entertaining, playing cards and traveling together. They camped for many years, wintering in Texas and had wonderful adventures together.

Glema loved people selflessly, and with a servant's heart. If you want to see a long list of her “accomplishments” you need look no further than the faces of her children and grandchildren, because that was her joy.

Glema deeply missed Mel, her husband of 70 years, after he passed on December 20th, and while we mourn her unexpected passing, we find comfort that she is together with him again.

Glema is survived by her children and their spouses, Gary and Joy King; Sheryl and Terry Flatt, Bruce and Judy King, Brother-in-law Dale King, sister-in-law Janice Streily-Everrett, sister Virginia Jeary, 6 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends.

Preceded in death by Melvin King and Angie Green (King).

Celebration of life service will be held 11 AM, Thursday, February 23, 2023, at Havelock United Methodist Church, 4140 N 60th St.

Memorials may be designated to Havelock United Methodist Church.
