Harold Arthur Rank, 92, of Beatrice, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2022. He was born on January 24, 1930, in York, NE, the firstborn child of Harold Elmer and Alice (Warkow) Rank. Harold spent all of his childhood years in York, growing up with his younger brother, Virgil and little sister, Virginia (Ginny). He loved sports, played high school football for the Dukes, and graduated in 1948. After graduation he received an appointment to work for the FBI as a fingerprint classifier, and so moved to Washington, D.C. for 2 years. In July, 1951 Harold was drafted to serve in the Korean War. He was stationed at Big Delta Air Force Base in Alaska, serving as a military police officer. In July, 1953, he was honorably discharged, and that fall he moved to Lincoln to major in accounting at the University of Nebraska. Harold married his childhood friend, Verna Theimer, on January 1, 1955. They moved to Minneapolis, MN shortly after Harold graduated from the University with his Bachelor's degree, and Harold began his first job as an accountant for General Mills, Inc. Three children were born to Harold & Verna while they lived in Minneapolis - Catherine (Cari) Rank Schroeder, Anne Rank Tollefson, and Thomas C. Rank. \nHarold worked as an accountant in many different settings over his career, taking him back to Nebraska to work for Kings Food Host, USA, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Commonwealth Electric Company, and eventually back to Washington, D.C as a consultant for the World Bank. While working at the University of Nebraska Harold attended graduate school and earned a Master of Arts degree from the College of Business Administration. Harold & Verna retired to Grand Island and then to Lincoln, Nebraska, and had opportunities to travel many different places within the U.S.A. and abroad. His brother, Virg and his wife Ruth were often travel companions and guides, hosting Harold & Verna in Florida and traveling to Germany, the Netherlands, Hawaii, and Canada & Alaska.\nHarold was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plymouth, NE. Everywhere Harold and Verna lived he took an active role in their Lutheran church, almost always as a church treasurer, and singing tenor in the choir. In his free time he enjoyed woodworking, and designing and making all kinds of do-it-yourself projects. Harold entertained his kids and grandkids with his excellent whistling and harmonica playing. He loved listening to Husker football on the radio, caring for his yard and spending time outdoors.\nHe is survived by his wife, Verna; children, Catherine (Wesley) Schroeder, Anne (Mark) Tollefson, Thomas (Lisa) Rank; grandchildren, Ethan (Rachel), Nicholas Schroeder, Aaron (Emily Marten), Noah Tollefson, Kaylie (Edwin) Ruiz, Trevor Rank, Joseph Rank; brother, Virgil Rank.\nHarold is preceded in death by his parents, Harold E. and Alice Rank; sister, Virginia Griesse; brothers-in-law, Robert Griesse, Darrell Puls; sister-in-law, Ruth Rank.\nMemorials to the church with the church elders in charge.
