Leon McCreight

Leon Garfield McCreight, age 79, of Lincoln, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. He was born on July 1, 1944, to Garfield and Bessie (Beachler) McCreight.

Leon was a proud graduate of Lincoln Northeast High School, Class of 1962. Following his high school years, he pursued his education at Southeast Community College in Milford. He spent the majority of his career as a salesman at Pauley Lumber. For many years, Leon enjoyed refinishing furniture in his spare time.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Chad and Beth McCreight, and David and Amy McCreight. Leon was a proud grandfather to Malia and Anderson McCreight.

Leon is also survived by his sister, Janice (McCreight) Whitworth, and brother-in-law, sister-in-law, Jim and Terry Zemke, as well as sister-in-law Doris (Zemke) Hawkins.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara (Zemke) McCreight, his parents, Garfield and Bessie McCreight, and his parents-in-law, Otto and Elsie (Bowmaster) Zemke. He also mourned the loss of his sister, Gaylen (McCreight) Jensen.

A memorial service to celebrate Leon's life will be held at First United Methodist Church, 2723 N 50th St, Lincoln, NE 68504, at 11:00 AM on October 18th. A luncheon will follow the ceremony, providing an opportunity for friends and family to share their memories and support one another.

Internment will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorials be directed to either the American Cancer Society or the March of Dimes.
