A light has dimmed in our lives, as we announce the passing of a beautiful soul, Brianna Chol. Born on April 7th, 2007, in Glendale Heights, Illinois, Brianna was a vibrant young woman known for her courage, generosity, wit, and adventurous spirit. She was a beacon of joy, lighting up every room she entered with her infectious laughter and magnetic personality. Her strength was inspiring, her humor was contagious, and her adventurous spirit was captivating.
Brianna, a proud graduate of North Star, nurtured her love for sports as a dedicated basketball player. She had a unique way of bringing people together, both on and off the court. She was not just a student, but a budding nurse, a dream cut short at the tender age of 19. She had an insatiable thirst for knowledge, loving the challenge of learning new things, including mastering different musical instruments. Shopping was her guilty pleasure, and dancing and singing were her soul's expressions. Her love was boundless, especially for her beloved cat, Moonlight.
Above all, Brianna's generous heart was her most defining trait. She loved her friends and family fiercely, always putting them before herself. Her family was her fortress, giving her strength and courage.
She is survived by her mother, Busena Akaka (Yousef Toto) of Lincoln, father, James Deng of Chicago and her siblings, Shaka Chol of Lincoln, Nania Chol of Chicago, Alonga and Emmanuel Chol of South Sudan.
A visitation for Brianna will be held on Saturday, September 26th, 2026, at 9:00 am at Calvary Lutheran Church, 2788 Franklin Street, Lincoln, Nebraska. Following the visitation, a Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 am at Calvary Lutheran Church.
