Scott Blair

–

Lincoln, Nebraska

Scott K. Blair March 18, 1943-August 30, 2024
Beloved to all who knew him, family and friends, Scott passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024, after a brief illness.
Scott is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Janet Rathman Blair; his parents, Dow K Blair and Dorothy Scott Blair; and his sister, Janet Schlamann Blair.

Scott’s family was always paramount in his life. He is survived by his three children; John (Charlene), Charles (Miguel), Nodine Jo (H.J.), one grandson, Barrett, and his brother, Bill Blair (Marie), and his many loving nieces and nephews who adored him.
If you had to list Scott’s passions in life, first, was definitely his love of family, but, let’s not forget that he was known far and wide for his passion for all things trains, where he spent countless hours photographing, watching, following, and reading about trains. His love for trains came from working for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for 42 years, where he held the positions of carman, welder, and later, as a stencil maker.

After his retirement from BNSF, Scott volunteered at the Food Bank of Lincoln, where he looked forward to the camaraderie shared with his fellow volunteers, and felt badly when he would have to miss his shift. He especially enjoyed taking part in the Annual Empty Bowls Luncheon which has benefitted so many neighbors throughout Southeast Nebraska who have experienced food insecurity.

Also top on his list was his passion for travel, where Scott and Jan enjoyed so many memorable vacations, taken with family and friends. They traveled throughout the United States, where their favorite trips were driving through Michigan to Mackinac Island and on into Canada.
It was always a given that Scott had his camera with him wherever he went, and of course, a random story or fact to share with anyone, especially another train enthusiast, because no matter the destination, an integral part of the vacation was to always hunt for different train attractions and museums.
