Holdrege, Nebraska
Wade Misko, 84, died August 23, 2026, at Christian Homes in Holdrege, Nebraska.
Wade was born in San Francisco, California, and was adopted shortly thereafter by Ralph and Ellen Misko, who raised him in a home filled with music, love, education, and intellectual freedom.
He grew up in York, Nebraska, graduating from York High School before attending Parsons College in Iowa, where he graduated in 1964.
Throughout his life, Wade held a variety of jobs. Among his favorites were working as a weekly newspaper editor, primarily for the Ord Quiz, and serving as a door greeter at Walmart and The Home Depot in Lincoln. He was also proud to receive the Service Partner Award while working at ServiceMaster PBM in Lincoln.
Wade traveled throughout much of the United States and visited several foreign countries. His experiences in travel and journalism taught him that, as he put it, “class” and money do not always go hand in hand. He enjoyed reading, music, writing, collecting antique maps, and aviation. At just 15 years old, he helped build an airplane and later had the opportunity to fly in it—an experience he remembered simply as “a lot of fun.”
A member of Alcoholics Anonymous, Wade celebrated more than 20 years of sobriety and learned to take life one day at a time. He often said, “Do the basic simple things and complicated matters will fall into place.”
Wade is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Gary Arehart of Holdrege; son, Eric Misko of Genoa; and former wife, Loretta Misko of St. Paul.
In accordance with Wade’s wishes, no services were held. He was laid to rest with his family at the Ord Cemetery.
